Hilary Belden
Hilary Belden from Putney, London has spent her entire working life teaching in London comprehensive schools and is now working as an Education Project Manager for Ealing Council, in Greater London.
In her spare time Hilary enjoys spending time relaxing and socialising with her close friends, which sometimes includes a convivial meal. She also enjoys reading, walking in the Herefordshire countryside and is actively involved at her local church. In addition to this Hilary does her bit for the local community by supporting Volunteer Reading Help, a national charity that supports children in Ealing primary schools.
Hilary has various financial interests and investments, including property in Herefordshire, which requires her to complete an annual tax return.
Rather than pay an accountant, Hilary uses TaxCalc, the UK's leading tax returns software, to file her own returns.
Hilary heard about TaxCalc through Which? and has been using the program ever since, always filing her returns online and always before the deadline. Hilary explains, "I try to make sure I have all my tax documents and figures well organised and filed, ready to insert into the TaxCalc program ready for the tax returns deadline. It makes my life a lot easier in the long run if I spend a little more time keeping myself organised."

She is also able to amend, save or backtrack at any stage - making the process (almost) entirely stress-free.
Hilary has used several different sections within TaxCalc to complete her annual tax returns including the land and property section. Hilary explains "I bought a house in Herefordshire when I inherited a large sum of money several years ago. I let the property out for two and a half years very successfully but have now reclaimed it for myself. Over those two and a half years I always used TaxCalc to help file my returns and would never use any other software."
When asked what the best thing about TaxCalc is Hilary replied "The best part is the SimpleStep guide. The HMRC form uses so much tax jargon that it can be extremely confusing, even for someone like me who is relatively familiar with tax returns. That's why I use the SimpleStep guide: it makes filing my returns a much quicker process. I also find the wizards very useful when there is a part of the return I need to do more detailed preparation for. It also helps that Taxcalc will bring forward key parts of the previous year’s information to complete the new return."
Hilary even helps an 82 year old neighbour file her return; luckily this one doesn't involve any complicated calculations!
